Audition Date and Time
The colorguard audition
will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2008, immediately
following the 1:00 general band meeting. The results
will be posted the same evening.
Skill Requirements
Auditioning members should have
prior colorguard experience and be familiar with basic
flag and movement skills. Some of the basic flag skills
such as drop-spins and speed spins need to be executed
at a proficient level. Additionally, some skills will
need to be performed out of the left shoulder and
the right shoulder. The movement skills will include
general coordination along with across-the-floor technique.
Some of the basic movement across-the-floor will include
tendu walks, jazz runs, chasses, battements, and sautes.
Members can also expect to learn and execute new skills
and routines.
Attire
Any green, black, or white colored
clothing that is fitted and easy to move in can be
worn to the audition (no jeans). Dance clothes are
preferred. Appropriate footwear for the audition includes
bare feet, socks, jazz shoes (not sneakers), or ballet
slippers.
Equipment
UNT will provide a 6-foot flag
for you to use during the audition. If you will also
be auditioning for the rifle line, you should bring
your own rifle. If you make the rifle line, UNT will
provide you with a 36-inch rifle to use during the
season. UNT may or may not have a rifle line -- it
is contingent from season to season, based upon the
number of people able to spin rifle at a proficient
level.
Other Information
If accepted into the group,
members must attend rehearsal the week of August 18-22.
Additionally, students must register for the marching
band class and attend bi-weekly colorguard sectionals.
Other than tuition fees, guard
members will need to pay for the unitard/biketard
that will be worn with the marching uniform. This
expense is approximately $30. Additionally, if the
guard member does not have black jazz sneakers, then
those will also need to be purchased.
Be prepared to adapt to any technique
specifications at the audition and show a high level
of effort and determination while maintaining a positive
attitude.
