Phil Smith with Professor John Holt and Joseph Turrin after performing together. Phil Smith, principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, came to UNT with Joseph Turrin to give a series of master classes on November 11th and 12th. He also performed a solo recital with special guests that included Professor John Holt and the UNT Trumpet Ensemble. Later that same night Mr. Smith also appeared with the UNT Brass Band.
American Brass Quintet Visits UNT The American Brass Quintet came to UNT giving several master classes and a concert on the November 14th and 15th respectively. Ray Mase and Kevin Cobb discussed several topics with the Trumpet studio and heard a performace of the Hummel Concerto by Daewook Kim and the Pilss Sonata by Brandon Potts. The following night the group gave a recital with painist Billy Childs. Eric Berlin Visits UNT Eric Berlin, professor of trumpet at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, gave a master class on January 16, 2008. In his master class, Mr. Berlin spoke to the trumpet department on new music for trumpet and what life is like as a freelance trumpeter. The following the night Mr. Berlin gave a solo recital that consisted of some lesser know works for trumpet and piano. View the UNT trumpet news index
