Composer Eric Ewazen Visits UNT

Spring 2006
February 1-3, the internationally acclaimed composer Eric Ewazen was
the guest of Professor John Holt at the University of North Texas where he
gave
master classes, accompanied Mr. Holt on his trumpet sonata, coached student
performances of his works and attended an all-Ewazen concert.

Eric Ewazen coaches DMA student Benjamin Polk on Ballad
for Bass Trombone and Piano. Ewazen explained that this work was
originally written for clarinet but Charles Vernon of the Chicago Symphony
decided to play this and other Ewazen works on bass trombone.

In addition to his work with Ewazen at UNT, Professor John Holt also
performed "Danzante" a concerto for trumpet and wind ensemble by Eric Ewazen with the New Mexico State University Symphonic Winds, February 11, 2006 in the NMSU Music Center Recital Hall with Dr. Ken Van Winkle conducting.
