The 2004 ITG Conference was held at the University of Denver, June
15-19. On June 17, a morning session was dedicated to the memory of Gil
Johnson, former Principal Trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra
(1958-1975) and Professor John Holt's instructor at the University of
Miami. Professor Holt (seated at the table, second from the right) spoke
at the tribute.
On February 4, 2004, Bob Malone from Yamaha was the guest
lecturer in Departmental. He talked to the department about his start in
Los Angeles and about his current work for the Yamaha Corporation on the
Xeno line of horns. Mr. Malone brought in models from both the C and
B-flat lines that he had made for Chicago Symphony Second Trumpet, John
Hagstrom, and Los Angeles studio and jazz musician, Bobby Shew.
Additionally, following Departmental there was the opportunity for
students to try out some of the new Yamaha horns.
In gearing up for his two upcoming CD recordings set to be released
on Crystal Records, Professor John
Holt has been performing selections from the albums throughout
Texas. Right is a picture from a performance at the Meyerson Performing
Arts Center with Natalia Bolshakova. Below is a picture of him with
Charlotte Tull, who accompanied Prof. Holt at Sam Houston State
University on the Fisher Tull Three Bagatelles .
