On Friday, May 3, 2002 at 8:00 p.m., at the Church of the
Blessed Sacrament in New York City, three works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy
were performed: Grosse Festmusik zum Dürerfest (1828), Concerto
for Violin in E minor (1845), and Hora Est (1828). This evening was
the world premiere of the complete version of Grosse Festmusik zum
Dürerfest, which was written for the 300th anniversary of the death of
Albrecht Dürer, the great German Painter and Engraver. In addition, this
evening was the United States premiere of Hora Est, which is a motet
for 16-part chorus, baritone soloist and organ. Dr.
Michael Cooper gave a pre-concert lecture at 7:30 p.m. and
Johannes and Stephen Somary conducted the Amor Artis Chorus and
Period-Instrument Orchestra.
