Apply Early

Secure your audition date early. Auditions are held in January, February, and March for the following academic year. We recommend an early audition date, the last date's schedule is always crowded. Your audition is essential. It is your opportunity to be considered not only for admission to the College of Music, but also for music scholarships, fellowships and assistantships.

Be Prepared

Audition repertoire for both graduate and undergraduate is available online now for upcoming auditions.

When you arrive for new student orientation you will be required to take a theory placement exam and a piano placement exam. Studying theory and piano before you arrive will better prepare you for your coursework.

Recommendations

You will need three recommendations to accompany your application to the College of Music. Many times an application may be waiting on only one recommendation to be completed. Rather than asking your recommender to mail the form, pick it up yourself. If your director/teacher prefers, they may place the form in a sealed envelope (provided by you). Then you can mail all three recommendations along with the application, ensuring we receive a complete application on time.

Email

You will be asked for an email address on the College of Music application. Use an email address that you check regularly and is easy to relay to others. After your application is complete, most of your correspondence with the College of Music will be via this email address.

Note: Please add the following two email addresses to your email "safe list" so they are not accidentally classified as "junk" mail.
(bhughes@music.unt.edu; in addition, graduate students should add mmatthews@music.unt.edu)
