Financial Aid

Students are encouraged to complete any required forms from the Office of Financial Aid. College work study, grants, student loans, and university scholarships may also be available. Applications for scholarships, assistantships, and/or fellowships must be submitted to the College of Music Office of Graduate Studies by the posted spring deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.  
 

Scholarships:  
• A limited number of scholarships are available in the various performing areas and in composition.  
• Scholarship applicants must submit a scholarship application along with the composition portfolio prior to the College of Music scholarship application deadline. The portfolio must include:  

1. Three representative scores  
2. Recordings (CD or cassette)  
3. Complete record of works and performances
• Because of the limited number of composition scholarships available, applicants are strongly encouraged to audition for scholarships in their performance medium as well.  
• Scholarship recipients are expected to enroll for a full load, maintain minimum academic grade requirements, and perform in appropriate laboratories and ensembles.  
 

Teaching Fellowships and Teaching Assistantships:  
• Full and partial Teaching Fellowhips and Teaching Assistantships are available in the area of Composition. Responsibilities may include teaching and/or assisting in the instruction of composition courses, assisting the director of NOVA, and administrative, production, and technical duties associated with CEMI and the Division Events Series.  
• Fellowship and assistantship applicants must submit a TF/TA application along with the composition portfolio prior to the College of Music TF/TA application deadline.  
• While enrolled in the masters degree program in composition at UNT, a student may receive an appointment for a maximum of two years.  
• While enrolled in the doctoral degree program in composition at UNT, a student may receive an appointment for two or three years depending upon the following:  

1. Two years maximum if he/she held an appointment for two years while enrolled in the masters degree program in composition at UNT;  
2. Three years maximum if he/she did not hold an appointment while enrolled in the masters degree program in composition at UNT, or held such an appointment for only one year.
• An "appointment" shall be a full fellowship, assistantship, or a combination in any area of the UNT College of Music.  
• An exception to this policy may be made if the instructional needs of the Division require the extension of a given appointment.
