William Scharnberg has been Professor of Music at the College of Music since
1983 and was named a Regents Professor in 2002. His teaching specialty is
horn, brass pedagogy and brass chamber music. He performs as principal horn
of the Dallas Opera Orchestra, Dallas Chamber Orchestra, Dallas Bach Society
and Breckenridge Festival Orchestra. He has recorded on the Crystal, Klavier,
Eco-Classics and Centaur labels, and has published editions
of eighteenth and nineteenth-century works for horn. He was President of the
International Horn Society (1990-92) and has appeared as a guest artist at
the three International Horn Workshops. His Doctorate of Musical Arts was
earned at the University of Iowa and he has held faculty appointments at Central
Missouri State University, Pacific Lutheran University, the University of
Oklahoma, and the Music Academy of Stockholm. He has served as principal horn
with the Royal Opera Orchestra of Stockholm, the Dallas Ballet, Dallas Lyric
Opera, Dallas Symphony, Dallas Baroque Orchestra, Classical Music Seminar
(Austria), Tacoma Symphony, Tri-Cities Symphony (Iowa-Illinois), Montana Chamber
Orchestra and Flathead Festival Orchestra. He has been a guest artist and
clinician at regional horn workshops and has performed as a soloist with several
orchestras. He is currently on the Advisory Council of the International Horn
Society and is a Music Review editor for The Horn Call.
