Jan Kagarice has served as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas since 1998 and has been a visiting professor at the Hochschule fur Musik in Detmold, Germany, the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) as well as the University of North Texas. She has performed with the Dallas Symphony, the Fort Worth Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony and the Boston Philharmonic, and was the founder and bass trombonist of the internationally acclaimed trombone quartet PRISMA. She has appeared in concert or as a lecturer at numerous music education conferences and workshops; including the International Trombone Festivals in Cleveland, Las Vegas, and Feldkirch, Austria; the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic; Eastern Trombone Workshop; the British Trombone Symposium; the International Women’s Brass Conference; the Texas Music Educator’s Association Convention and the Internationale Posaunen Vereinigung; and in such countries as Canada, Denmark, Poland, Italy, England and Germany. Jan holds degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of North Texas. Her teachers include John Swallow, John Kitzman, John Marcellus, Jay Friedman, and Arnold Jacobs. She is also a certified Montessori teacher with five years’ experience both in the classroom and as Head of School. Her innovative philosophy of music performance has developed from her demonstrated ability to assist players who have experienced performance difficulties. She serves the International Trombone Association as the Assistant Managing Editor of the ITA Journal, as a member of the Board of Advisors and on the Pedagogy Committee.
