Vern Kagarice has been a professor
of trombone and conductor of the University of North Texas Trombone Choir
since 1983. He holds a doctorate and master's from Indiana University and
a bachelor's from Bethany College. Kagarice was a student of the late Thomas
Beversdorf and William Bell at Indiana and Jay Friedman of the Chicago Symphony
Orchestra. He is managing editor of the International Trombone Association's
Journal and Newsletter, has written two books (Solos for the Student
Trombonist: An Annotated Bibliography and An Annotated Guide to Trombone
Solos with Band and Orchestra), and is clinician/educational consultant
for United Musical Instruments.
Kagarice has presented recitals and master classes at numerous American universities
and music conferences, as well as guest appearances in Austria, Brazil, Canada,
Denmark, England, France, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland. He
organized and hosted the first Christian Lindberg Solo Seminar held in the
United States in 1994. He has been a member of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra
in New York since 1979.
