The Undergraduate Music Audition and Scholarship Application must be
completed for:
1) acceptance to the College of Music
2) consideration for a music scholarship
3) scheduling an audition
_____submit three recommendation forms
(pages 4-6 of the application file)
NOTE: These forms are to be given to 3 people who can attest to your
music ability. They are due
in the College of Music prior to your audition.
____perform an audition
If auditioning in person, indicate on the form the date on which you wish
to audition. You will be notified by email of your specific audition
time. For audition requirements please see Undergraduate
Audition Repertoire. Please
refer to Jazz Studies repertoire list for additional jazz requirements.
Applicants are notified of admission results after the final on-campus audition date.
The National Association of Schools of Music Code of Ethics Article V. requires that the acceptance of financial aid or the signing of a declaration of intent to attend a given institution shall not be binding if signed before May 1, of the calendar year of matriculation into a program of study at the undergraduate level.
Live auditions are preferred (refer to Audition
Repertoire for specific instructions). If you are unable to audition in
person you should submit a high quality CD, DVD or VHS recorded audition. Please label the recording
with your name, mailing address, email and telephone number.

Orientation/Registration
When you have been accepted by the University, UNT
Admissions will send information about registering for an Orientation
session prior to the start of classes. Refer to the Schedule of
Classes for Orientation and Registration schedules.
Music
Placement Examinations
During Orientation, you will take placement exams
for music theory and keyboard. Following those exams, you will work
with an academic advisor to schedule your classes for the ensuing
semester.
Items to review for the Theory Placement Exam:
- the accurate writing of all major and minor
key signatures on both treble and bass staves
- the correct notation of all major and (all
three types of) minor scales in either clef (using either accidentals
or key signatures).
- general rhythmic notation
The test will place you in either first-semester
music theory track or in the prerequisite course, Music Fundamentals
MUTH 1260 music theory course
